Although the term Hipster has commonly been around since the 90s, there is a fairly recent development to the fashionable subculture of the contemporary urbanites. This addition; is the jumper.

Obviously the jumper, sweater, pull-over, cardigan, or whatever you call yours has been around for an inconceivable amount of time. However, duly noted is the main stream influx toward the Hipster style of kitsch iconic prints and mis matched layers.

The style of the 90s which was considered embarrassingly nerdy; with thick rimmed glasses, suspenders, brightly coloured-anything, vintage-anything, old fashioned shoes and the jumper; is now epitome of cool!

Did you notice something slightly new and weird at Christmas? Like the immense rise of the ironic Christmas Jumper? In fact, the epidemic was so great, that the majority of High-street shops completely sold out. People were going absolutely nuts to find the most distasteful garment imaginable.

The funniest part is, that with the new acceptance to what was once considered ugly-wear has now made perfectly trendy to continue to don said Christmas Jumper throughout the seasons! Due to the classic British weather our country is famous for, Jumpers are a stable part of our seasonal wardrobe, even throughout the “heat-wave” in the height of summer.

What’s best about Hipster-chic is that you are meant to look like you haven’t tried too hard. Now this opens all of the doors to getting away with wearing exactly what you want, however you want to.

Like to tuck your Jumper in when it gets a bit windy? Not a problem! Prone to getting colder and colder at night? Keep putting more and more Jumpers on until you are cosy and warm enough. It doesn’t matter if the colours clash horrendously and one’s much longer than the other, you’ll just look cooler!

No need to keep those notorious house-clothes hidden away inside anymore.  Those sketchy overly-worn, but über comfortable trousers that you usually keep out of public sight, are suddenly fashionable if you layer up and throw a Jumper over the top of it.

Thankyou Hipsters, you’ve literally made it possible to get away with all fashion faux-pas.  So long as you’ve got a Jumper, you can pass style-suicide at every turn. Now, if it does ever make it to t shirt weather and you are worried about how to stay trendy in the sun, do not fear, you can tie your little bad boy round your waist or over your shoulders!
